What is a Lightworker?

“A Lightworker is an awake soul who has made the conscious decision to live in alignment with their soul. They know that we are all interconnected and that their presence has the potential to create a positive change. They have made the conscious decision to devote their whole life to following what lights them up and, by default, to lighting up the world with their presence.” (Rebecca Campbell) https://www.rebeccacampbell.me/what-is-a-lightworker/

Although Rebecca Campbell’s definition comes close to describing the general sense of where I have found myself, my experience was less of a choice and more of a last-ditch effort by the Universe to save my life.

Put yourself in my shoes for a minute - imagine living an ordinary life, but really REALLY struggling under the weight of unresolved trauma, oblivious to the root cause of your suffering. You hit rock bottom and consider taking your own life, prompting the Universe to intervene. Upon making the decision to live, you blindly stumble forward, grasping for helping hands or any kind of light in the darkness. Fate leads you to a solution that actually works and suddenly you are not only free, but enveloped by Divine energies of peace, joy, and unconditional Love. Having experienced a “meeting with God” (mystical experience), you would probably do anything asked of you. I certainly did.

Even though it took some time to figure out what had happened to me, I knew immediately that I was on a mission - first to write the book and share my story, and then to quietly walk the talk - an embodiment of unconditional Love. So, in hindsight, Rebecca Cambell’s definition does fit me. Even though I was dropped into the spiritual pool almost against my will, I ultimately surrendered to the process and made the conscious choice to live in alignment with my soul. I would expand upon Rebecca’s definition to say that Lightworkers are survivors, empaths, and/or highly sensitive persons (HSP). Having fought through the depths of darkness, they are naturally able to see through egos, recognize the same pain in others, and address the soul within.

It is important to note that I have yet to meet many others like me - the difficulty being, I suppose, that we don’t identify as Lightworkers. There are no company hats, badges, or labels of any kind. I would never introduce myself as a Lightworker. I’m just…me. Unreasonably happy most of the time, but definitely flying under the radar, which makes me a very poor salesperson. I’m hoping that the book will eventually get to those who need it.

Having been so profoundly changed, this role is not as hard as it would seem to be. If, however, you are striving to push past unresolved trauma and fear to make every decision from a place of Love, taking on the role of Lightworker may seem like a daily struggle. So we can’t do shortcuts - there is no room for spiritual bypassing - we need to face those demons, do the shadow work…recognize the ego…and then let it all go. Choose Love, not fear. Connect with your heart and remember your soul. We all have the potential to be Lightworkers, and the world needs every single one of us.
